Types of Stress

According to American Psychological Association, there are four types of stress:


The most common form of stress. It comes from demands and pressures of past and future demands and pressures. Acute stress is thrilling and exciting in small doses, but too much is exhausting.


The stress that wears people away day after day, year after year. Chronic stress can effect bodies, minds and lives. Chronic stress can feel familiar and sometimes, comfortable.


Daily life stress that has positive connotations such as marriage, a promotion, holidays, retiring, moving, a new baby, winning money, new friends, or graduation.


Daily life stress that has negative connotations such as divorce, punishment, injury, negative feelings, legal issues, financial problems, or work difficulties.
