Mental Health Apps and Wellness
Therapy is amazing! And we aren’t bias here . . . however, a therapy session once per week may sometimes not be enough. The more you are dedicated to improving your mental health, the greater the results will be. The use of technology for mental health is expanding; with the use of technology for so many of our needs, this can be beneficial in improving our mental health as well. These new technology tools may support emotional well-being and be a welcome addition to any wellness journey.
Here are a few ways technology can enhance one’s well-being:
Podcasts
Podcasts can focus on a variety of mental health issues, providing information to individuals who may want to learn more or perhaps consider new things to bring up in their therapy. Podcasts also normalize and validate one’s experience, finding podcasts that highlight others may experience similar feelings.
Mental health apps
While we know the negative effects of social media, there are several mental health apps that can promote wellness and be supportive outside of the therapy space. Headspace, Happy Not Perfect, Sleep Cycle, Pacer, Fooducate and others are all apps that promote well-being whether this is through exercise, diet, sleep, meditations, affirmations, or mantras, all can support well-being across body, mind, and spirit.
Incorporating technology into the mental health space is crucial as technology changes our social and cultural landscape. Tools for well-being via technology are important to utilize in our personal wellness journeys. Rather than using technology to our detriment, we can make it work for us and take control of our own wellness. These additions to therapy itself can also greatly improve our well-being.
