My warm, genuine, and compassionate nature quickly puts clients at ease. I listen attentively without judgment and provide a validating environment where clients feel heard and understood. I also let clients know there is no pressure and they can share as much or as little as they feel comfortable with.
Anxiety, Depression, Substance Use
I wish clients knew that therapy is a process and progress/change can take time. Some people feel relief right away while other people take a little more time and that is completely normal.
Outside of my role as a therapist, I would describe myself as thoughtful, reflective, creative and exploratory. I love learning, being active, and trying new things. I really enjoy being outside in nature, traveling, and experiencing different cultures.
I take the time to get to know each person, their experiences, values/beliefs, and goals. I use this knowledge to select therapeutic approaches and techniques that are best suited to the client’s preferences and goals. For example, there are times where I allow clients to lead the conversation and other times where I actively guide the session and offer evidence-based interventions. I also encourage feedback whether positive or negative. This allows collaboration, where clients have a say in their treatment and I can truly tailor sessions to each client’s needs.
A common myth I would love to debunk is that therapy is only for “crazy” people. Therapy can be valuable for anyone interested in personal growth. For example, therapy can be helpful for people looking to have a greater understanding of themselves, manage stress, or improve relationships. It is so beneficial for people to have a safe space to talk openly.
I prioritize my own mental health and well-being by maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I make sure I find time to connect with important people in my life and engage in activities that I enjoy. I like to reflect on how I am feeling and honor what my mind and body need. Sometimes that means being more active and sometimes it means giving myself a needed break.
Being nervous about starting therapy is completely normal and so many people feel this way! You are taking a big step just by considering therapy and that is something to be proud of. It is important to keep in mind that you get to decide what you share and when you will share it. We will go at the pace you feel comfortable!
