Michael D’Urso, LAC

Michael D'Urso is a Licensed Associate Counselor and is a devoted professional in the field of mental health. His academic journey includes earning a Master's in Counseling with a focus on Addiction and Mental Health from Montclair State University, complemented by a Bachelor's of Arts in Ancient Philosophy from Hobart College.

Michael has accumulated a wealth of experience in a variety of mental health settings. His most recent work includes helping individuals who live with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders at Alina Lodge, New Jersey’s first addiction treatment center. Here, he guided residential clients through 12-step work, AA/NA policies, and Smart recovery methodologies to help them overcome their struggles. Michael also has served as a counselor in an intensive outpatient center working with men and women with a variety of diagnoses, such as generalized anxiety disorder, depression, stress management, substance use disorders, autism spectrum disorders, trauma-related disorders, men’s issues, and more. Michael has also served as head counselor for their anger management program where he helped equip individuals to better manage their emotions and control their anger. 

Michael takes a compassionate, comprehensive, and client-centered approach to counseling where he utilizes evidence-based modalities tailored to his client’s individual needs. Proficient in Trauma Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy(REBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Strength Based Therapy, he stands ready to assist adolescents, adults, and seniors in navigating a broad spectrum of mental health challenges.

Beyond counseling, Michael's background as a Teaching Paraprofessional underscores his commitment to crisis intervention and life skills education for special needs students. His versatility extends to facilitating psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic groups, addressing topics such as bereavement, relationship management, and domestic violence.
