Becoming A More Positive Thinker

November 15, 2019

We have all had moments where we get stuck in negative thinking patterns. Have you ever struggled to see the positive side of things? Do you find yourself noticing negative thoughts that impact your feelings of self-worth? How can we shift this so that our negative thoughts stop spinning and impacting the rest of our day?

It’s important to think positively, however this is much easier said than done! Negative thinking patterns are hard to break; they are destructive and undesirable, impacting others around you. With a bit of insight into your own thoughts and some motivation to make changes, you can begin to adjust these patterns to become a more positive thinker.

Focus on developing an awareness of negative feelings. Once you are aware you can begin to move toward positive thoughts. This will increase your self-esteem and make you feel happier across the board! Here are some tips for promoting positive thinking:

  1. Notice and emphasis the things that didn’t go wrong today.

  2. Integrate positive experiences in your daily routine that make you feel good (e.g. exercising regularly, listening to music, meditating, spending time with friends).

  3. Focus on the present moment.

  4. Write down one positive thing about your life daily.

  5. Point out positives to others.

  6. Smile and laugh a lot!

Basic self-care techniques can help to shift negative thinking patterns. They can allow you to set small goals each day leading to more positive thinking and positive experiences in your daily life.
