According to NEDA walks (link):
- Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses
- 10 million men & 20 million women develop an eating disorder at some point in their lives
- 1/2 of teen girls & 1/3 of teen boys use unhealthy weight control behaviors
NEDA walks educates affected individuals and their families, while raising funds in the fight against eating disorders.
We were able to connect with some great organizations who were there to sponsor the event!
Center for Discovery (link) provides residential and outpatient treatment for adults and teens with eating disorders, mental health disorders, and substance abuse issues. All of their locations provide treatment for only a small number of residents at one time to maintain an intimate setting and a high staff to resident ratio. They place a high priority on providing an environment where clients feel like and are treated like people, never patients.
High Focus Centers (link) provide structured outpatient substance abuse and psychiatric treatment programs for adults, adolescents and families struggling with addiction or psychiatric illness. Their mission is to provide the best possible care for their patients. They strive to provide them with elite-level care in the least restrictive setting possible, while matching them with a program that best fits their individual needs.
Montclair State University Center for Clinical Services (link) embodies the University’s commitment to making positive, meaningful contributions to its larger community, by providing the public with access to affordable clinical services and by serving as a hub for collaborative, cutting-edge research. Services are provided by Montclair State University advanced master’s and doctoral students under the supervision of program faculty.
Modern Therapy was happy to be a part of an inspirational day hosted by NEDA. So many people came out who are effected by eating disorders, either personally or through a family or loved one.
