Personality plays a big role in everything that we do - it's essentially who we are! That's why it is important to understand how personality plays a role in the workplace. If you are unhappy with your current work situation, it could just be that you have the wrong personality type for your job! Once you identify that, the logical next step is figuring out what career path is best for your personality.

A great way to study your personality is to take a personality test! The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test is an introspective self-report questionnaire with the purpose of indicating differing psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. Here is a link where you can take the test yourself. It only takes about 12 minutes, but can give you a very solid understanding of your personality type which you can use to make decisions on your career.

The test will produce 4 letters that identify your personality type based on the type key's above. However, them middle two letters are the ones that will truly give you the best idea of what kind of career path is right for you. An E (extrovert), N (intuition), F (feeling),  P (perception), works best through intuition and feeling. This indicates that this personality type might thrive in a role where there is a lot of creative freedom.

On the other hand, an ISTP's middle two letters are S (sensing) and T (thinking). These individuals will do well in an environment where their natural problem solving skills will be utilized. This will keep them engaged in their work and stimulated by the complex problems that require their expertise to be solved.

If you've found yourself not sure of what your next career move should be, knowing your personality type is a great first step to take that could point you in the right direction.
