5 Things You Do That Could Be Holding You Back

We all have habits and tendencies that hold us back from becoming the best version of ourselves. These will be different for everyone, but here are a few that are common.

1. You compare yourself to others.

It's easy to browse through instagram and see all the great things other people are doing and become depressed with our own place in life. Since you cannot see the struggles, improvements, and mistakes that these people made every day, you assume that they never existed. Instead of focusing on what other people are doing, look at where you are today compared to where you were last year to get a better picture of the own progress you are making in your life.

2. You care too much about what other people think.

It's natural to want those around us to approve of our lives. You are truly the only one who knows what's best for you. Trust your gut and your decisions, and take the negative opinions of others with a grain of salt. When you create and live by your own standards, your much more likely to develop a life full of happiness.

3. You have goals and dreams, but don’t take action.

You have a grand vision of what the future is going to look like, which is great! You discuss your plans with your friends and family, brainstorm and analyze them. You do everything except for take action to make them a reality. Rather than talk, plan, and ideate, just start doing! No matter how small the task may be, doing creates momentum. Momentum creates results.

4. You expect instant results.

Be patient, be persistent, and give yourself realistic timelines. Rome was not built over night. It's okay if the boat is moving slow, as long as it's headed in the right direction.

5. Your self-talk is negative.

Negativity creates negativity. When we talk negatively to ourselves, it does extreme damage to our mindset and self esteem. Next time you immediately gravitate towards a negative thought or negative self talk, try to change it to a positive one. If you can break the cycle and begin to think and act positively, you'll be on your way to a much happier life!
