Mental Health Resources for Black Individuals During This Time

Racial trauma is ongoing and something the black community, as well as the BIPOC community, have endured for centuries. However, it seems that the current pandemic coupled with outbreaks in police brutality such as the untimely death of George Floyd have forced the black community to further express the pain they continue to endure.

Taking care of one’s mental health during this time may feel overwhelming especially with the numerous barriers that often occur when seeking mental health treatment such as discrimination in healthcare settings and culturally incompetent clinicians. While it is our hope that multicultural competence and support within the black community build and grow, the black community has built-in healing through many means. 

It is crucial to ensure individuals have coping strategies to manage difficult emotions during this time. Reviewing your favorite coping skills can be beneficial.
