Self-Care Explained

Self-care is engaging in the activities that are required to gain or maintain an optimal level of overall health. This can be in the form of physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual care.

Physical

Self-care for the body includes activities such as drinking enough eater, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly.

Psychological

Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. Psychological self-care can vary from working with a talk therapist, learning how to combat negative self-talk, or addressing your emotions.

Emotional

Emotional self-care is highly related to psychological self-care. It can involve taking the time to properly grieve a loss, journaling about anger, or talking about paralyzing feelings.

Social

Social self-care involves having fun with the people you love. This could mean going out to coffee with a best friend or planning a date night with your spouse. This can also mean talking effectively through conflict and addressing the emotional needs of the people you love.

Spiritual

Spirituality is about not only faith, but finding meaning in life. Providing spiritual self-care may mean spending time in prayer, meditation, or going for a long walk to contemplate purpose and meaning.
